Treating a Cold.

Hi,

I originally wasn't going to do a blog update until tomorrow however I need to publish this post to help you lot out there who like me have the dreaded flu.
This is about my hundredth cold since September and I hate it! (Personally, I blame my mother who never breastfed me as a child so I now suffer from a weak immune system).
My nose is blocked, I have a fever and I'm struggling to keep food down but what helps me?
In this post I'm going to be sharing with you my four favourite ways to help me through these terrible few days of cold I have to overcome.

First of all, I always suffer with my nose. I have ever since I was a child and the main thing that helps is this.
Sudafed nasal spray unblocks the nose for up to 10 hours. I use this at night before bed so I don't suffer from sleep deprivation which makes me terribly moody. I'd not recommend that it is used whilst pregnant or breast feeding though. Usage for under 12's isn't suggested either. Sudafed shouldn't be used for more than 7 days as it can cause deterioration of the sinuses even more!

Throughout the day, I like to use an old favourite. Vicks vapo-rub is a smooth, silky gel that can be rubbed on the chest or underneath the nose which releases a substance which helps unblock the nose. I use it as an alternative to Olbas Oil which I think smells pretty vile!

To treat the other symptoms I have, like a headache and chesty cough, I use Beechams All in One tablets after every meal. I just take the one as I think this is strong enough to do the job. It relieves tummy aches if you suffer from those to! I take the tablets opposed to the medicine as they don't have a gross after taste but most people favour the medicine.

Finally, there's always a chance that the reason I have constant colds is hay fever. I've always denied it for some reason but when it got to a point where it was really bad, I started to use Piriteze tablets. I take one daily, in the morning with my tea and toast and to be honest, they really help with the hay fever. They also help with any other allergies, especially pet allergies.

I hope these methods of survival help!

  3. Hello Rose, nice blog. If it is true that your mum didn't breastfeed you I wonder why mums shouldn't breastfeed their lovely children!
